APPLICATIONS FOR
CELLULAR CONCRETE
(roll over application images for
more information)
ROAD SUBGRADE BASE:
Cellular concrete strengthens the
road subbase and reduces weight.
It has long-term viability with
little to no settling. Cellular
concrete is up to ten times
stronger than compacted soil or
granular material. Because it's
self-leveling, the subgrade
doesn't need to be compacted
before the cellular concrete is
installed. It is quick and easy to
install for a cost-saving solution.
RETAINING WALL BACKFILL:
Because of its strength and light
weight properties, cellular
concrete is an ideal product for
backfill behind retaining walls. It
reduces the lateral load on the wall
in comparison to soil or other
traditional granular fill materials.
The composition of the cellular
concrete can be modified for the
desired permeability, and can be
placed with increased lift heights
in a quick, easy application.
DAM & LEVEE STABILIZATION:
Because dams and levees are often
placed in soft, deep sediments,
settling can be a problem.
Lightweight cellular concrete can
be used beneath the surface to
stabilize the dam or levee structure.
Designs and calculations for the
cellular concrete layer will consider
the net load and often include
anchors to keep the dam or levee
stable in high water. Using cellular
concrete can significantly reduce
failures from washout and piping.
FOUNDATION FILLS:
Cellular concrete can prevent
settlement issues and fill voids in
structural foundations. In addition
to covering the entire foundation
area, cellular concrete can also be
used to fill the gap between a
building and the shoring hole, or to
repair foundation work that is hard
to access. Using cellular concrete as
a foundation mat not only decreases
settlement issues, but also provides
increased insulation between the
earth and the structure.
ANNULAR SPACE GROUT FILLING:
Cellular concrete is lightweight and
highly flowable, making it the ideal
product for annular grouting and
tunnel backfills. The material is
pumped at low pressure and can be
easily delivered over long distances.
Cellular concrete has less than 0.3%
shrinkage, and the product is
completely customizable to suit
project requirements. Its
lightweight, flowable properties
reduce the chance of floating the
pipe or damaging the slipliner.
ABANDONED PIPES & TANKS:
Filling abandoned pipes, tanks and
culverts with lightweight, flowable
cellular concrete is a time saving
and cost effective solution over
removing the structures or using
alternative fills. Using bulkheads
and inlets to control the flow, most
pipes can be filled from one end in a
single operation. No additional
excavation or pipe division is
needed. With a consistent
compressive strength, cellular
concrete is also easier to excavate if
necessary than traditional pipe fills.
VOID & CAVITY FILLING:
Because of its high flowability,
lightweight cellular concrete is
ideal for filling voids and cavities. It
is pumped with low pressure so it
will not damage the structures, but
will flow seamlessly to fill all
available spaces. The material can
be pumped from long distances
through hoses, so hard-to-reach
locations are not difficult to fill
with cellular concrete. Its low
shrinkage value and self-leveling
properties make it the ideal
solution for void and cavity filling.
BRIDGE APPROACHES:
Lightweight cellular concrete is
ideal for rehabilitating or
constructing bridge approaches.
Settlement of foundation soils in a
bridge approach can jeopardize the
structural integrity of the bridge.
Cellular concrete can resolve these
settlement issues quickly and with
a significant cost savings over
other remediation options. It
reduces the lateral load allowing
for the use of less costly
reinforcement systems.
