Location: Duck, NC Overview: This project involved the abandonment and infill of an existing indoor pool at the Sanderling Resort to allow the space to be converted into a finished event venue. A lightweight, engineered fill solution was required to support the new finished floor while addressing schedule and settlement concerns. Challenge: Traditional demolition and removal of the pool, followed by compacted sand or conventional flowable fill, presented concerns related to long- term settlement and extended construction duration. Due to site constraints, full pool demolition and infill was estimated to take approximately 30 days, impacting project schedule and use of the space. Solution: Low-Density Cellular Concrete (LDCC) with a cast density of 30 pcf was selected as the infill material due to its lightweight properties, uniform support, and elimination of compaction requirements. RyanGeo placed 210 cubic yards of LDCC in a single day, fully infilling the pool and creating a stable base for the new finished floor system. Results: Total Volume Placed: 210 cubic yards Material: 30 pcf Low-Density Cellular Concrete Placement Duration: Completed in one day Schedule Savings: Reduced infill duration from an estimated 30 days to one day Outcome: Stable, settlement-resistant base for new event space
